More than 2,300 Frederick County residents were without power Thursday evening as a result of storms, the most of any county served by FirstEnergy in Maryland.
Almost 2,000 of those residents reside in the 21727 zip code, which includes Emmitsburg. About 150 residents of the remaining residents without power were in the 21788 zip code and more than 50 were in the 21787 zip code.
The majority of the customers without power are expected to have electricity restored by 6 a.m. Friday and the remaining throughout the morning, provided no additional storm damage occurs, according to a statement on the FirstEnergy website.
Before the storm hit Frederick city, a water main ruptured on North Market Street just north of Routzahn's Way at about 7:40 p.m. and closed the street in both directions, officials reported. North Market Street was still closed as of 10 p.m.
Police encouraged motorists to use Routzahn's Way as a means to access North Market Street southbound from Md. 26, as well as a way to access Md. 26 from North Market Street when traveling north.
