The race for the Frederick Board of Aldermen picked up one more candidate Monday.
Amanda Haddaway, a human resources and marketing professional, filed paperwork to run for one of the board's five open seats.
Haddaway, 32, is running as a Republican.
"I definitely want to make sure Frederick remains a great place to both live and work," she said.
Haddaway has lived in Frederick for the past 2 1/2 years, but grew up in Thurmont and attended Catoctin High School. She will focus on fiscal responsibility, advocate for local businesses and support the mission of the Frederick Police Department.
She said she also sees improvement needed in the communication between elected officials and residents.
"It seems that you really have to be a detective sometimes to find out what decisions have been made and why they've been made," Haddaway said.
She is running to bring business and leadership experience to the board.
Haddaway works for construction equipment dealership Folcomer Equipment Corp. as director of human resources and marketing.
Before moving to Frederick , Haddaway worked for SRA International, a technology and consulting company in Fairfax, Va.
She has a bachelor's degree from James Madison University and a master's degree from George Washington University.
She is a committee chairwoman for the Frederick County Society for Human Resource Management.
Haddaway serves on the planning committee for Alive@Five, a summer concert series event held along Carroll Creek. She also volunteers regularly with the Downtown Frederick Partnership.
She lives in the Dearbought neighborhood with her husband. Haddaway is the fifth Republican to join the ballot. Joe Cohen, Senitta Conyers, John Shupe and incumbent Alderman C. Paul Smith have also filed paperwork.
Democrats John Daniels, Andrew Kotkin, Carol Krimm, incumbent Alderwoman Donna Kuzemchak, Michael O'Connor, Kelly Russell and Karen Lewis Young have filed to run.
The city's primary election is scheduled for Sept. 15. The general election is Nov. 3. The last day a candidate can file is July 7.
