Friends and relatives call him "Moose Almighty." His real name is Devon Wilton. The nickname originated when Wilton, 22, was 14 years old. While traveling with his cousin in Ontario, Canada, the car they were in went around a bend and crashed into a moose. "It wasn't a good day for the moose," he said. "It was a damaged moose and a damaged Honda." After that, the nickname stuck. Wilton spent most of his "memorable youth" in Plano, Texas. When he was 19, a friend asked him to join a circus sideshow. "It was better than working at the mall," Wilton said. He stayed in the family-owned sideshow until he was 21. While there, he worked as a sword swallower, fire-eater and human pin cushion. Sword swallowing was the riskiest, he said, but being a pin cushion involved running 2-inch pins through his cheek and other parts of his body. "I was doing 75 to 100 needles a day," Wilton said. "If I did it right, I wouldn't bleed." That dexterity comes in handy in his new profession, he said. He works at the counter and is a body piercer at Timebomb Tattooing and Body Piercing on North Market Street in Frederick .
