Dominic Clarke had never returned kicks for Tuscarora.Did Jackarie Jackson return any? "Jackarie did for one game, and we took him out to rest him," Tuscarora coach Shawn Carey said. "But we're not going to do that anymore." While Clarke and Jackson were already stars, they both added the role of "dangerous returner" to their football r?sum?s on Friday. Clarke returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, and Jackson ran back a punt 60 yards for a touchdown in Tuscarora's dominant 40-6 win over Frederick in the season-opener for both teams. While it was a stellar start for the Titans, none of their fans were in the stadium to celebrate the win. Spectators were ordered to evacuate the stadium during the third quarter after several fights erupted. This order was given while the game was stopped to deal with an injury to Frederick starting quarterback Deon Walker. Walker was taken off the field in a stretcher with 4:29 left in the third quarter. "He's been nursing a sore hip," Frederick coach Vince Ahearn said. "There was no neck or spine injury. They were being very cautious, which they should be." Andrew Zimnik replaced Walker. Tuscarora didn't waste any time seizing momentum. Clarke saw to that. The Ohio State-bound senior raced 90 yards for the first touchdown return of his career. "When I got the ball in my hands, I knew I had to make a big play," said Clarke, whose speed wasn't the only thing that created the touchdown. "I'd have to be blind not to see that hole. It was huge." The same could be said of Clarke's punt return, which gave the Titans a 17-0 lead with 9:25 left in the second quarter. "Everyone's always talking about Dominic this and Dominic that. But little do they know, we have other weapons to focus on," Clarke said. "They can't sleep on the rest of my teammates because they're good." One of those teammates was Josh Marshall, who made his varsity start at quarterback. Marshall rushed for 94 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown. He also threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Fabian Gonzalez and 16-yard touchdown pass to Jackson. As if that wasn't enough, he kicked two extra points and ran a two-point conversion. "I think he did pretty darned good," said Carey, adding that Marshall was a junior. Josh Jackson helped Frederick avoid a shutout, rushing for 4-yard touchdown that capped a 10-play, 47-yard drive.
