Brian Baillie, of Washington, won the 2008 Frederick Marathon with a time of two hours, 34 minutes and 48 seconds.
Baillie finished about seven minutes better than the second-place finisher, Jay Silvio, of Frederick . Silvio crossed the finish line at the Frederick Fairgrounds in 2:41.46.
On the women's side, Melissa Tanner, of Bethesda crossed the finish line in 2:56.14. She finished nearly 10 minutes ahead of Kelley Taylor, who completed the course in 3:05.22.
Frederick 's Felica Gudat placed fifth in the women's race with a time of 3:16.13. Also among the women's top 10 was Jennifer Lynn Baclawski, of Ijamsville. She placed 10th with a time of 3:28.25.
Other top performances from local runners include:
Lorie Foucault, 50, of Frederick , won the 50-54 women's age group with a time of 3:57.20. Elaine Melissa Kaime, 50, of Middletown finished second behind Foucault, with a time of 3:59.22.
18-year-old Brooke Ray Beale, of Frederick , won the 19-and-under women's category with a time of 4:05.47.
Michael Patschak, 17, of Woodsboro , won the 19-and-under men's age group, crossing the finish line in 3:16.20.
50-year-old Ronald Black, of Boonsboro, won the 50-54 men's age group with a time of 3:20.02.
Bob Imming, 58, of Middletown , topped all competitors in the men's 65-69 division with a time of 4:13.42.
Marilyn Jeanne Portner, 41, of Frederick , placed second in the 40-44 women's age group with a time of 3:37.42.
Jeanne Prins, 45, of Frederick , placed second in the 45-59 women's age group with a time of 3:58.02.
The marathon began at 6:30 a.m. and looped through downtown Frederick and many parts of the city. Runners also passed many landmarks, including the National Museum of Civil War Medicine on East Patrick Street, the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum on Rosemont Avenue and Carroll Creek Linear Park between East and Market streets.
This year marks the sixth running of the Frederick Marathon.
Cash awards go to the top five finishers in each gender. First place is $500 each, while second place finishers take home $400, third place $300, fourth place $200 and fifth place $100.
The men's record time was set in 2006 by Michael Wardian with a mark of 2:26.43. The women's all-time mark of 2:53.42 was set last year by Jenn Shelton.
