Runners leave the start line at the fairgrounds during the 5k race Saturday evening.
Greg Holden's legs are his primary mode of transportation.

On Saturday, they carried the Washington D.C. resident to victory in the Frederick Running Festival Twilight 5K race in an event record time of 16:08.55.

For the last four years, Holden, 28, has lived with his wife, Petra, on the Potomac River in a 60-foot boat he bought from former Ohio Congressman Bob Ney, who is currently serving a 30-month prison sentence for conspiring and making false statements in relation to the Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal.

"It's pretty awesome," Holden said of his boat, "Monday's View", which has been featured in national newspapers.

"It's in the middle of downtown. It takes five minutes to bike anywhere."

Holden owns one car that he shares with Petra, but he prefers running or biking to his destinations.

"He loves running," Petra said. "He's constantly doing it. He keeps me running."

Recently, he ran in the G.W. Parkway Classic in Alexandria, Va. and placed second overall in the 5K Race.

He learned of the Frederick Running Festival Twilight 5K through a Washington Nationals baseball telecast on MASN, which is one of the event sponsors.

"Overall, it was a good 5K," he said. "I had a good time."

The top female finisher was Sara Fisher, a 16-year old junior at Brunswick High School. Her time was 20:03.50.

A day earlier, Fisher won the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs at the MVAL Antietam Track and Field Championships.

"I was pretty tired from that," she said. "I didn't really expect my time here to be so good."

There were close to 800 people in the fourth running of the Twilight 5K, which is the first of four official races in the Frederick Running Festival.

The marathon, half-marathon and 4-person relay will take place today, starting and finishing at the Frederick Fairgrounds. All of those races are completely full. They will start at 6:30 a.m.

The previous event record in the Twilight 5K was set by Doug Bates in 2006 with a time of 16:36. That race was run on the old course that started and ended at Harry Grove Stadium.

This year's race was the first to be run on the course set up around the fairgrounds.
