We're starting three new features in your newspaper during the month of March. The first begins tomorrow and will be called House Tour.
Then, starting Wednesday, we will begin publishing a two-page community section called Around Frederick County, which will highlight a different region of the county each week.
Last, we are working with the Frederick Police Department and the state's attorney's office to finalize details on a twice-a-month project called Frederick 's Most Wanted. The name speaks for itself, but in a nutshell we will be working with local law enforcement officials to help hunt down the county's most-wanted fugitives.
Our House Tour feature will always be published the first Sunday of each month and will showcase an unusual or historic home in Frederick County.
The debut story, written by staff writer Karen Gardner, is about a 98-year-old house that gets a much-needed makeover. The house sits on a bluff near Knoxville, high over the Potomac River.
We'll always be looking for interesting homes to profile. If you have any suggestions, please pass them on to Features Editor Nancy Luse at 240-215-8601 or by e-mail at nluse@fredericknewspost.com.
For the past several months, we have been developing a special community section that will target different regions of the county each Wednesday.
Wednesday's section will focus on northern Frederick County, including Thurmont and Emmitsburg . The pages will adorn the cover of our C-section, and our weekly Food pages will be moved to the third page of the section.
The March 11 community section will highlight the eastern region of the county, including Walkersville , Woodsboro , New Market , Mount Airy and others.
On March 18, we'll feature the western region of the county and the fourth Monday of each month will highlight the southern area of the county that includes Urbana , Adamstown and Monrovia .
We are making it easy to remember the order that each of the regions will be published weekly each month -- north, east, west and south -- because it spells out "NEWS."
The purpose of the community pages is to provide more specific content for each region such as local human interest stories, photos, and calendars of places to go and things to do, among other things.
At the same time we have revamped the community section on our home page, which will greatly improve the accessibility to these articles and photos. This can also be found at www.aroundfrederickcounty.com. You will need to wait a few days before checking it out because the site won't be turned on until Wednesday at 2 a.m.
By mid-March we will roll out Frederick 's Most Wanted. This biweekly listing will profile several of the most-wanted fugitives, along with a listing of their criminal charges and a photo.
I'm most excited about this new addition to the paper because we will provide a vehicle for residents to help police track down the "worst of the worst," which will help bring criminals to justice and make our streets safer.
