The Lorenzens operate Just the Right Horse American Saddlebred Farm on Reichs Ford Road in Frederick . They will show one of their horses today at The Great Frederick Fair.

The couple work full-time jobs but still find the time to care for their horses.

"My day starts at 4:30 a.m. and ends at 10:30 (p.m.) normally," Bonnie Lorenzen said. "My friends ask me, how do I do all of this? It's for the love of my horses."

Breeding high-quality animals requires dedication, the Lorenzens said.

"Our mares all have top pedigrees, incredible dispositions and outstanding conformations, and all of our horses are superior show horses for the serious horse enthusiast," Bonnie Lorenzen said.

The horses get their early training from Bonnie Lorenzen, a Level I Richard Shrake Certified Resistance Free trainer. Professionals complete the horses' training. They are then shown and sold to good homes, she said.

"There is nothing more satisfying than owning an American Saddlebred horse," Bonnie Lorenzen said. "When you are sad and down, worried or sick, just saddle up and take a ride and your whole world will change in a matter of moments."

Bonnie Lorenzen became involved with the American Saddlebred horse more than 20 years ago.

"My husband, John, and I met on Match.com in 2002, got married in 2003 and bought our small farm in 2003," Lorenzen said.

She bought her first American Saddlebred stallion, Razz's Special Effects, in 2003, and decided she wanted to be a breeder for Maryland and bring the American Saddlebred horse to the state.

Lorenzen has 16 Saddlebreds.

"Saddlebreds are responsive, intelligent, well-mannered horses and have all of the qualities that help make the rider successful in the show ring," Bonnie Lorenzen said.

A depressed economy has affected horse sales and stud service business, but the situation will improve, the Lorenzens said.

"As a matter of fact, a slow economy may have made it more affordable for folks who have always wanted a horse to now be able to buy one," Bonnie Lorenzen said.
