Volleyball

Thomas Johnson swept Frederick , 25-9, 25-10, 25-11 Monday at TJ.

Erika Saunders had eight kills for the Patriots; Tamika Saunders had four kills with two blocks; Megan Lynch had three kills, four blocks and six service aces; Alexis Skinner had five kills with two aces; Emily Bane had three kills and Chelsea VanBuskirk had 13 assists.

For Frederick , Courtney Dentinger had eight assists and Jenna Connors had six kills.

TJ also won the junior varsity match.

Williamsport 3, Catoctin 0

Thurmont -- Scores: 25-13, 25-18, 25-12. Samantha Smith had seven digs for Catoctin (2-8). Devan Dewees had seven kills for the Cougars. JV: Williamsport, 2-0

Boys Soccer

Clarksburg 1, Churchill 0

CLARKSBURG -- Ketch Arum scored on an assist from Nick Civitti for Clarksburg (7-1-2).

Williamsport 2, Brunswick 0

WILLIAMSPORT -- Nathan Foltz had six saves for Brunswick (5-4-2). JV: Brunswick , 1-0

Girls Soccer

Brunswick 3, Williamsport 1

Brunswick -- Maria Bertoni scored two goals for Brunswick (3-6). Kaitlyn Stepler had one goal. Dara Demich had two assists for the Railroaders. Courtney Swaim had eight saves.

Catoctin 3, Clear Spring 1

CLEAR SPRING -- Tara Woelfel, Cheyenne Ganley and Priscilla Olson each had a goal for Catoctin (7-2-1). Sara Baseley and Ganley each had an assist. Carolina Grossweiler had four saves. JV: Catoctin, 2-1.

Field Hockey

TJ 2, Catoctin 1

Thurmont -- Morgan Molnar and Kelly James each had a goal for Thomas Johnson. Sam Crabtree scored on an assist from Morgan Cole for Catoctin.

Lauren Gibson and Bianca Wallace combined for six saves for TJ (3-7). JV: Catoctin, 3-0.

Linganore , Frederick 0

New Market -- Ashley Levetere and Sam Staley each had a goal for Linganore . Mary Kate O'Boyle had 15 saves for Frederick . JV: Linganore , 3-0.

Westminster 7, Tuscarora 0

WESTMINSTER -- Emily Valin had 17 saves for Tuscarora (4-5).

Poolesville 5, Northwood 0

SILVER SPRING -- Lori Defnet led Poolesville (8-1) with a hat trick and one assist. Carissa Craze and Dakota Bierly each had a goal for the Falcons.

Amy Defnet recorded the shutout in goal.

Men's Soccer

Juniata 2, Hood 0

JUNIATA, Pa. -- Will Lane had seven saves for Hood (2-10).

College Golf

MSM's Kingsbury sixth

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Jeff Kingsbury is sixth for Mount St. Mary's after the first round of the Holiday Inn-Pittsburgh Airport Colonial Classic with a 76. On the women's side Christina Koerper is in seventh for the Mount with an 84.

Emmitsburg -- Chris Davis had three saves for Mount St. Mary's.

SMITHFIELD, R. I. -- Emily Menotti scored the match-winning goal in the second overtime for Mount St. Mary's (4-7-2, 2-1-1 NEC). Alicia Miller had 12 saves for the Mount.

College Field Hockey

Cedar Crest 3, Hood 1

Magan Cahill scored a goal for Hood (3-8). Anne Marie Hantman had seven saves.

Boxing

Pryor loses decision

in Madison Square Garden

NEW YORK -- Frederick 's Larry Pryor lost a unanimous four-round decision to former Olympican Carlos Negron in a light-heavyweight match at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.

Negron remained unbeaten with the win while Pryor is 4-5.

"I went out there and put up a good fight," Pryor said. "I almost knocked him out in the fourth. It wasn't one of those bad losses. It proved I could stick around with a guy like that."

Pryor said that Negron won the first and third rounds. Prior said he hit him with some shots that hurt him in the third round and kept a lot of pressure on him in the fourth.

"I hit him with a lot of punches (in the fourth), but he ran from me," Pryor said.

Negron is a former Puerto Rican Olympian who fought in the 2008 Olympics.

The fight will be shown on HBO on Oct. 23, according to Pryor.
