Frederick mayoral candidate Jason Judd won the endorsement of Gov. Martin O'Malley, according to a statement released Tuesday.Judd, a Democrat, is running for his first elected office. "I think it sends a strong signal to voters in the city that if we win this election the city will have a strong relationship with the governor's office," he said. Judd said he received a call from O'Malley, also a Democrat, the day after he won September's primary election, but did not get a letter of formal endorsement until this week. "Jason has the vision, ability and background to reach out across the state to ensure that Frederick is always moving forward," O'Malley said in a letter sent to Judd's campaign. The endorsement comes three weeks before the Nov. 3 general election. Judd, an executive and issues campaign director at the Service Employees International Union, will face Republican candidate Randy McClement, the owner of a Market Street bagel shop and delicatessen. "If we win this thing, one of our first conversations with the governor will be about infrastructure," Judd said. "He's excited about the city's prospects."
