Sean K. Preston & The Loaded Pistols
Published on February 09, 2012
If it sounds like Sean K. Preston sings about hard luck, lost love, long journeys, dark secrets, damnation and redemption like he's lived through them, it's because he has. He'll play Olde Towne Tavern in Frederick at 10 p.m. Friday, delivering his blend of blues, punk, country and rock 'n' roll. Preston was born in Australia, in the isolated desert town of Alice Springs, to an American father and a Japanese mother. As a music-hungry teenager in a small town with no record shop to fuel his cravings, save the local Kmart, Preston was forced to raid his father's record collection. It was there that he discovered, and fell in love with, early rock 'n' roll, country and blues. Eventually his family moved to a suburb of Baltimore, where Preston was introduced to his first rock concerts and the local punk scene. It wasn't long before he picked up the guitar to front his own band. Upon the invitation of a friend, Preston visited Ireland, and what started as a holiday turned into four years of busking. After returning to the U.S., Preston began work on a self-produced and released debut record titled "Hoarse Whisper" and began touring the East Coast. His music draws heavily on the influences of the classic heartbroken sounds of country and western music from the '40s through the '70s, the honesty of the blues by the likes of Robert Johnson and John Lee Hooker, the bombast of '50s rock 'n' roll, the lyrical sophistication of musical poets like Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Nick Cave and the raw energy of punk. His own songs range from delicate lullabies to fiery blasts. Olde Towne Tavern is at 325 N. Market St., Frederick. For more information, call 301-695-1454, or go to www.ottfrederick.com. more »
