What does it mean to be a no-kill shelter?

The no-kill shelter movement is about saving animals that can't be adopted without rehabilitation or medical treatment. Frederick County Animal Control Center takes in almost 6,000 animals every year. Half of these animals are healthy and friendly, and though there are thousands of them we are able to find homes at least for those animals. There is no time limit for healthy, friendly animals at your county shelter. If it takes six months to find a home for a cat, then that's what it takes.
