Grief and Loss through the Holidays -- 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19 at Emmitsburg Elementary School, 300 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg . Dinner begins at 6 p.m. Program at 6:30 p.m. R.S.V.P. for dinner. Free. When a family has suffered the loss of a loved one, the holidays can bring stress and painful memories. Program will help parents and children work through this difficult time. Child Care Choices training credit is available for Maryland childcare provider. Training credit is also available for foster parents.

La Leche League of Frederick offers breast-feeding support and education -- Morning meeting at 9:45 a.m. second Wednesday of each month at the Monocacy Valley Church, 9861 Old National Pike, Ijamsville. Evening meeting at 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at The Common Market Community Room, 5728 Buckeystown Pike, Frederick . Frederick Country Day Montessori will offer a free Tales for Toddlers Program from 10:15 to 11 a.m. through May on the second and third Thursdays of the month. Home School Days -- Experienced naturalists will enrich your child's studies through a multi-disciplinary approach using nature as a focus. Topic for November is Hawks, Falcons, and Vultures. Parents who attend must also register. $4 per child; $5 per parent. 10:30 to noon, Nov. 19 for ages 5 to 8. 1 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 19 for ages 9 to 12.

Wee One Fun -- Parents and children can explore the natural world through songs, stories, puppets and live animals. Each session will feature a different theme and a craft. $10 per parent/child pair. For ages 2 to 3 years. 10 to 10:45 a.m.; 11:15 a.m. to noon; and 1 to 1:45 p.m. Nov. 18.

Let's Talk Turkey -- Children will learn the difference between the wild turkey and the bird that is now raised for Thanksgiving dinner. A turkey story will be told and Tom will make a surprise visit to the nature center. Parental supervision required. $10. For ages 3 to 5. 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Nov. 24.

Victory Equine Center will offer free introductory riding lessons beginning at 1 p.m. every Sunday through March.
