What's it like ... learning English as a second language

The Literacy Council of Frederick County, originally formed to help illiterate American migrant workers, was chartered in 1963. Entirely staffed by volunteers and funded through private donations, Alice Brouillet, the organization's coordinator of the English as Second Language (ESL) program said the Literacy Council currently works with roughly 100 students, 60 or so learning English as a second language and around 40, improving their verbal and written English skills in the basic program. more »
