Frederick ----Seven businesses were honored on Tuesday for their contributions to the local economy and the community.The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce presented its annual Summit Awards, preceded by an overview of 2006 by Rick Adams, chamber CEO.
Those honored were:
n Technology: DynPort Vaccine, which grew from 26 to 125 employees since 2000. The company developed a system for producing large volumes, through subcontractors, of live virus vaccine, advanced products to clinical trials, tested products identified as potential bioterrorism threats and received FDA approval for a smallpox vaccine.
n Innovation: Real Estate Teams, which provides a cooperative working environment for agents and teams to combine ideas, marketing approaches and save costs.
n Entreprenurial: The Main Event, a Mount Airy -based firm launched in 2000, which includes a retail party store, event decorating service, party rental and gift delivery, and has taken over production of the Wedding Expo. The company expanded with a 5,500-square-foot warehouse and grew its staff from 12 to 18.
n Partner In Business: Frederick Innovative Technology Center Inc., better known as FITCI, is the business incubator with two locations in Frederick . Since 2004, it has brought 23 companies to the county, creating 45 full-time and 15 part-time jobs and more than $1 million in sales.
n Work Force Development: Manpower, a leading staffing service, was honored for its Bridges program that has helped welfare recipients build positive attitudes and self-esteem. The program also helps participants with interview skills and resumes. The program maintains an 80 percent or higher rate of helping participants find jobs in Frederick County. The company helped the local workforce grow and reduced the costs of welfare.
n Made In Frederick : Equipment Development Co. manufactures surface preparation and restoration equipment and offers services. Launched in 1959 in Silver Spring, the company occupies a 115,000-square-foot plant in Frederick with more than 70 employees. The company serves more than 5,000 customers in 59 countries.
n At Your Service: Frederick Aviation has helped connect Frederick with the world for nearly 40 years. It has helped make Frederick Municipal Airport the second-busiest airport in the state and hosted an Aviation for Education Expo for more than 350 high school and college students to introduce them to the opportunities for careers in aviation.
