If you own a small business and haven't been able to provide health coverage for your employees, a Maryland program may help. The Maryland State Small Business Health Insurance Partnership is the topic of a forum scheduled for 8:30 to 10 a.m. Nov. 17 in the auditorium of the Frederick County Health Department, 350 Montevue Lane. A representative from the Maryland Health Care Commission will be on hand to describe details of the Small Business Health Coverage Act, which provides a subsidy to eligible companies to help them purchase affordable insurance for their employees. Eligible businesses include those that employ between two and nine workers who earn less than $50,000 a year and have not been offered health coverage during the last 12 months. Small business owners are encouraged to participate in the program because it will lower their health coverage costs by as much as 50 percent, help to provide affordable coverage and peace of mind to employees and their families, improve workers' health and productivity, improve employee retention and make businesses more competitive. The Maryland State Small Business Health Insurance Partnership is designed for small business owners who haven't been able to provide health coverage for their employees because of high premiums and administrative costs. Under the terms of the partnership, subsidies are provided to qualifying businesses to help them with health coverage.
