Most people have seen logos printed on shirts or pens or other objects. But what about a message, or even a photo, on a live flower? Wendy and Don Markle of Monrovia launched Speaking Roses to offer just that. The couple can print almost anything onto live flowers, from words to logos to photos. As Wendy Markle explained, someone with a new baby can have "It's a Girl" on roses, along with a photo of the child and the date of birth. The business offers a variety of rose colors and ink colors. Company logos on roses can be used for expos and trade shows or corporate functions. There are birthday, anniversary, "I'm sorry," or "I love you," as just a few examples. Deliveries can be made in Frederick and Montgomery counties and can be shipped anywhere in the U.S. Wendy Markle said the couple looked for years to open their own business. "Some might say we are crazy for starting a new business in a bad economy, but we saw this as an opportunity we couldn't pass up," she said. "I don't know that any business is recession-proof, but we know there will always be birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, weddings and so on. We felt confident in our decision." Jim Markle continues to work with Comcast in Montgomery County. Wendy Markle was working in community management for a homeowners' association.
