UNION BRIDGE -- When it comes to what happens between the sheets, there's a need for a company like Slumber Parties.

Franchise owner Danielle Hadley sells romance enhancement products to women in six states and Washington.

Her inventory include lingerie, massage and bath and body products, edible lotions, books, games, videos and other bedroom accessories.

Maryland ranks No. 1 for the company's product sales and Utah ranks second, which proves that people of all faiths and ethnicities have a need to spice things up in the bedroom, Hadley said.

"The business of romance is always recession-proof," Hadley said. "We have stuff for people who are a bit timid or on the wild side."

Most of her business is house parties for women, Hadley said, "But I've also done bridal shows, trade shows, womens' fairs, barbecue festivals -- I've done it all."

The intimate atmosphere of a house party allows women to share stories, taste, smell and try things on, Hadley said.

"Women buy everything in a living room -- handbags, jewelry, chocolate, cookware," Hadley said. "In a store you don't get to open things and try them."

Her parties are called slumber parties but there are no sleepovers and only women 18 and older can attend, Hadley said.

"Our parties are tasteful, educational and always the talk of the town," she said.

Being a franchise owner offers women an opportunity to enrich their lives from the bedroom to the bank, Hadley said.

"I just left a well-paying job at a multi-million dollar corporation in downtown Baltimore during a national recession because my part-time business is so lucrative, plus I have no boss to answer to," Hadley said.

Slumber Parties offers free training to consultants, who can begin selling products with a $150 start-up kit.

The company began to offer health insurance for part-time consultants in March, Hadley said.

Hadley studied sexual health and education at Penn State, "So this is not a far stretch for me," the single mother said. "I work every day with a smile on my face and I can't say that about many jobs."
