A resident of Glenbrook active in the Middletown Chamber of Commerce, Minnick decided to bring her expertise in the field and help the community by opening Nirvana Day Spa at 4315 Old National Pike.

"The demographics were perfect and I wanted to help people stressed by the challenging economy," she said.

"We will offer services not found at other day spas in the Frederick area," she said.

The spa offers massages, facials, back facials, anti-aging facials, seaweed and cellulite body wraps, acne-clearing treatments, reflexology and multiple microtreatments for both men and women. Gift certificates are available. The day spa is affiliated with Permanent Makeup USA.

But with Dr. Wanda Minnis-Dyson as medical director, and through affiliation with Medi-Spa, Nirvana offers additional features for customers.

Minnis-Dyson is founder and director of the Change of Life Wellness and Aesthetics Center in Washington and has done makeovers for "America's Next Top Model."

Timothy Bassett of Medi-Spa offers laser treatments such as eIPL photo facials, Botox and dermal fillers, micropigmentation and other noninvasive cosmetic enhancements.

Minnick, a single mother, is fluent in sign language and has been in the beauty industry for 25 years. She is also an award-winning real estate professional.

Minnick said she has worked diligently to hire positive, creative and upbeat staff members.

Hours at Nirvana Day Spa are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
