Local businessman Paul Frey was selected District Governor of Rotary International in July. The regional post puts Frey in charge of more than 2,500 Rotarians in central Maryland and the District of Columbia. As governor for District 7620, Frey, who is past president of the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, will oversee 69 Rotary clubs. Frey said he's proud to have been selected one of about 535 District Governors worldwide. "It is an honor to serve as District Governor and it is a thrill to work with such great people, here and around the world," Frey said. It is gratifying to see the efforts of Rotarians impact people and communities all over the world, Frey said. Frey's immediate plans are to let people know about Rotary and the community service done by Rotarians, locally and around the world and increase membership. "We are always looking for excellent professionals that want to join Rotary, support for Rotary Foundation, which is the mechanism that we, as Rotarians, utilize for programs that promote world peace and understanding," Frey said. As part of his responsibilities, Frey will help district clubs implement growth strategies, expand community and international service projects and provide additional programs to area youth. He will visit each of the clubs in the district, which stretches east to Havre de Grace and south to Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties, and will convene a District Conference next April in Gettysburg, Pa., for hundreds of Rotarians. "What makes Paul Frey tick is working with people in Frederick , in Maryland, in America and in the world, who are dedicated to Service Above Self," the Rotary's motto, Frey said. Frey holds a master's degree in business from Mount St. Mary's University and a master's degree in Organization Development and Human Resources from Johns Hopkins University. He is president and owner of Clear Path Organization Consulting, a business and management consulting firm based in Frederick , and is also a published author. Prior to his role as District Governor, Frey was president of the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, co-chairman for Rotary Leadership Institute and as chairman of the district's Strategic Planning Committee. Rotary International, the world's oldest service organization, has more than 1.2 million members in more than 33,000 clubs worldwide. Frederick is home to four Rotary Clubs with a combined membership of more than 400. In addition to its involvement in community and international service projects, Rotary International is best recognized globally for its efforts to eradicate polio. With more than $1.2 billion contributed to date, Rotary has provided volunteers, advocates and donors who have helped bring about a 99 percent decline in the number of worldwide polio cases.
