Crew Leader (Full-time)
The Crew leader is responsible for organizing, assigning, directing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of the packaging department including machines, materials, and personnel during the shift assigned. This position requires 80% to 90% of work hours spent on the production floor that requires a high degree of work-specific knowledge and the ability to rapidly adapt to a constantly changing environment. The crew leader must be of high integrity, dependable and a people person capable of fostering teamwork and good morale with the crew. Assists in daily operations including: scheduling, reporting, communicating with other departments, operating inkjet machine with ¼ folder, inserter machines including SLS 2000 & SLS 3000, post-it note machines and is able to set up all commercial & newspaper stackers. Must have demonstrated mechanical skills and abilities on such equipment.
The normal working hours will be Monday – Friday daytime hours. The ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays, is required.
Minimum requirements include: Two to four years experience in a newspaper industry i.e. packaging, distribution, and mailroom operation. Minimum of six months to one year as a lead worker or supervisor with demonstrated ability to effectively manage a given team of employees and meet production schedules and deadlines. This position requires a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent directly related experience). Must also have working knowledge of Microsoft Office or comparable software. Position also requires ability to perform simple mathematical calculations and keep accurate records; and be physically able to lift, carry, load, and unload products and supplies varying in weight from 25 to 50 lbs.
