Managing Editor (Full-time)
The Frederick News-Post seeks an experienced professional Managing Editor to lead our newsroom. This person will coordinate the effort of assembling the content for all products including but not limited to newspaper, web, special sections, magazine, TV and other future projects. Help us grow our overall audience by way of traditional and non-traditional avenues of delivering information to our audiences. Lead our newsroom with a spirit of support and teamwork. Work with other departments in developing strategies that achieve our shared goals. The candidate must have a proven track record regarding reader-focused content, staff development and strategic planning. Will represent The Frederick News-Post while attending on and off campus meetings and functions. Requirements include a College degree in journalism or related field; 10-15 years newspaper experience and 5 years experience in a management role. A Masters Degree is highly desirable.
Reporter (Full-time)
Will be a general assignment, multi-media Reporter responsible for investigating and reporting on a variety of subjects and providing accurate and objective news for public consumption through both print and web platforms. Will conduct interviews and collect documents needed for news, feature and enterprise stories. The ideal candidate will have experience with the web and shooting and editing video and still photographs. Familiarity with blogs is also preferred. Normal working schedule is 2:00PM-10:30PM, Sunday through Thursday; ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays required.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in writing, English, journalism or related fields and a minimum of one year experience in a newsroom required. Commensurate experience and training considered. Ability to interact with the public, public officials, business owners and representatives, police, etc. is needed. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and furnish current driving record with no more than two points for a period of two years, and a reasonably acceptable driving history with no suspensions. Basic computer keyboard skills necessary.
Assistant Account Executive - Advertising (Full-time)
Provides general administrative support to both display and classified account executives and is responsible for assisting account executives with all aspects of advertising sales and customer account maintenance, including providing territory coverage when an assigned account executive is unavailable. Responsible for maintaining positive client relationships. Normal working schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM.
A general knowledge of business office functions, including Microsoft Word and Excel is required. A minimum of one year professional administrative experience is preferred. Professional level knowledge of advertising and marketing normally acquired through successful completion of a related college degree program preferred; prior experience in retail, advertising, or marketing using long-range planning, budgeting and performance against goal, may be acceptable in lieu of degree. Must possess a valid vehicle operator’s license with no more than two points for two years.
Security Officer (Part-time)
The Security Officer provides building and grounds security for The Frederick News-Post building. Conducts security round checks on designated entrances and exits, internal doors and external grounds and buildings. Normal working schedule will be Saturday, 8AM-7PM.
H.S. diploma or GED and the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds required. Possession of good corrected vision and hearing as well as color perception skills is required. Related experience as a building or mall security officer preferred.
