Our History - From 1961 to 1980

1964 William T. Delaplaine dies. George B. Delaplaine, Sr., becomes president.
1965 Myron W. Randall joins the company as vice president and comptroller.
1967 Company purchases the Potomac Edison building, 200 East Patrick Street. A new offset press with "cold type" process is installed.

The first press runs with new offset printing begin. As the newspaper production moves into the 200 East Patrick building, operations coexist with Potomac Edison offices.

Cablevision is started in Frederick, and The Great Southern Printing and Manufacturing Company soon becomes sole owner.

1968 All corporate offices and operations move to 200 East Patrick Street.
1970s The company experiences fast growth and expands services, circulation of the newspapers increases, cablevision networking moves throughout the county.
1976 The great Frederick flood occurs. The Frederick News-Post publishes a commemorative book, which is well received by the community.
1977 George B. Delaplaine, Sr., dies. George B. Delaplaine, Jr., becomes president.

GS Communications, Incorporated, a group of cable TV franchises operating primarily in Pennsylvania, is acquired.

1978 C/R TV Cable, Incorporated, is purchased. This cable company serves Charles Town and Ranson, West Virginia.
1979 Business computers are introduced to company operations.
