Average weekly pay has declined nationally at the highest rate since 1978, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
But, in Frederick County, wages rose 2.7 percent, in the first quarter of 2009, from the same period a year earlier.
The county was rated 18 out of more than 300 “large counties” in the bureau report for changes in wages.
The average wage for a Frederick County worker in the first quarter was $886 a week, according to the bureau.
The number of workers, 91,000 in the county, was down 3.3 percent from the first quarter of 2008.
Montgomery County was rated 153 for percent change in wages. The average weekly wage in the first quarter in Montgomery County was $1,234, down 0.6 percentage points from the first quarter of 2008.
Meanwhile, a report released Tuesday shows women will soon outnumber men in the workplace.
The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards said more women are entering the workplace and fewer are being laid off.
According to the bureau, 10.3 percent of adult men are now unemployed versus 7.8 percent of adult women.
