Quick Facts:- Elected officials, a mayor and a three-member Town Council, serve three-year terms and are elected at-large.
- Recent claim to fame is the 2001 movie "The Blair Witch Project" (which is a fictional movie, by the way!) is based in Burkittsville.
- Burkittsville was founded in 1824. The population of town is roughly 200.
- Battle of Crampton's Gap took place Sept. 14, 1862 and served as a prelude to the Battle of Antietam, which took place three days later.
- Town remains a prime tourist destination for Civil War buffs.
- In mid-July every year, the town hosts the Annual Burkittsville Ruritan Club Carnival at the Ruritan Community Center grounds.
Meeting Schedule: Located in the Ruritan Community Center, meetings take place the second Monday of January, March, May, July, Sept., and Nov. at 7:30 p.m.
