Catoctin's miracle man
Originally published on November 20, 2009
Matthew Nesbitt (left) was busy Wednesday preparing for the Class 1A North championship on Friday night, an opportunity he relishes as much, if not more than his Catoctin football teammates. In many ways, it's a miracle Nesbitt is even alive, let alone playing football as a starting defensive back for the unbeaten Cougars. VIDEO: Game of the Week: Pikesville vs. Catoctin more »

Regional football capsules
Originally published on November 19, 2009
Friday at 7 p.m.Class 3A West Finaln Linganore (11-0) at Quince Orchard (11-0): This is the first meeting between two of the states powerhouse programs. Many thought it would happen when the schools were vying for state titles in Class 4A in recent seasons. Quince Orchard won the 4A championship in 2007. When both teams moved into the 3A West this season, it seemed likely they would meet for the championship of arguably the toughest region in the state. Neither team has been seriously challenged this season. Linganore has won its games by an average of 33 points, while the Cougars have won by almost 25 points a game. This is the first road playoff game the Lancers will play in more than three seasons outside of the state final. They received a career-high 328 yards rushing from Zach Zwinak in last week's first-round victory over Damascus. They are hoping to claim their second straight regional title. more »
