Horse doing better after rescue frenzy
Emergency crews spent hours freeing trapped animal

A 30-year-old horse that spent six hours in a 12-foot-deep sinkhole Monday was in a makeshift stall Tuesday afternoon, half asleep.

The Appaloosa, named Chief, stood in a bed of thick straw. He occasionally shifted his weight and ignored the bucket of grain at his feet.

Monday afternoon, Chief was in his field with another horse, as well as several donkeys and cows, when the ground gave way under him, and he slid into the hole.
