Mrs. Helen D. Buscemi, of Tilghman, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. She was 86.Born on March 3, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Szymanski Kuc (Kutz). After graduating from the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore in 1942, she attended the School of Nursing at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore where she graduated in 1945. She then worked as a registered nurse at Marine Hospital and later, from 1970 until 1985, as a nurse at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. A resident of Tilghman since 1982, she was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Chapel where she sang in the choir, as well as being a member of St. Anne Joachim Society. She was also active with the United Methodist Women of the Tilghman United Methodist Church, a member of the St. Michaels Women's Club, the Alumnae Association of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and a former member of the Easton Dance Club. She loved music and performed for many years with the Neviaser Follies for the benefit of Talbot Habitat for Humanity. She was also a volunteer for the Easton Hospice, as well as the Tilghman Volunteer Fire Department, making crab cakes for all the seafood festivals. Mrs. Buscemi is survived by two daughters, Anne Marie Olinger of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Frances G. Santimays of Bel Air; three sons, Anthony J. Buscemi of Rockville, Paul C. Buscemi of Jefferson, and Gregory L. Buscemi of Baltimore; 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Buscemi was preceded in death by her husband, Libero (Leo) A. Buscemi, whom she married in 1948; and three sisters, Agnes T. Kutz, Marie Klein, and Claire Sapliway; and a brother, Edward Kutz. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at noon, Thursday, Oct. 29, at St. Michael's Catholic Chapel. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. Burial will be held at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.
