Mrs. Helen B. Sager

Mrs. Helen B. Sager, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at her residence in Charles Town, W.Va.Born Aug. 1, 1929, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Paul L. Beard and Helen (Hammond) Beard. She was the wife of Kenneth W. Sager who died May 25, 2001. She is survived by daughter, Suellen Leigh Cassell and husband, J. Michael, of Charlestown, W.Va.; sons Paul A. Sager and wife, Tina, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Brian E. Sager and wife, Kathleen, of Charlestown, W.Va., and Mark Hammond Sager and wife, Stephanie, of Charlestown, W.Va.; grandchildren Leigh Anne Cassell, Andrew Cassell, Paul Cassell, Ian Sager and Isabella Sager; sister-in-law Lucille Beard, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Hammond Beard. Mrs. Sager was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1946. She was formerly employed with Fredericktown Savings and Trust Co., Frederick, and later she was employed with Peoples Bank, Charles Town, W.Va. She was an active member of Zion Episcopal Church where she was a member of the church choir and former Christian education director. Mrs. Sager was a past member of Wayside Garden Club and a past member of Masterwork Chorale at Shepherd College. She taught piano lessons and enjoyed ceramics and other arts and crafts. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 S. Fairfax Blvd., Ranson, W.Va. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Zion Episcopal Church, 300 E. Congress St., Charles Town, W.Va., with the Rev. Melanie McCarley officiating. Interment will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town, W.Va. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Episcopal Church, 221 E. Washington St., Charles Town, WV 25414.
