Joseph Wendell Haynes, 79, of Mount Airy, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Genesis Healthcare, Randallstown.Born Oct. 5, 1930, in Unionville, Tenn., he was the son of the late Ernest Raymond and Annie Thomas Crowell Haynes. Mr. Haynes served in the U.S. Air Force, seeing action during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. He was formerly employed as a schoolteacher in Montgomery County for more than 30 years. He enjoyed traveling, especially with his grandchildren. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, J. Nathan and Amy Haynes of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Nathan and Carissa Haynes, both of Mount Airy; and brother, Raymon Haynes of Knoxville, Tenn. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Amazing Grace Community Church, 1046 Unionville-Deason Road, Unionville, Tenn., with the Rev. Charles Melvin Collins officiating.
