John Paul "Jack" Daiger died peacefully Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at his home, Maywoods, in Braddock Heights, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 72 years young.Born July 14, 1937, and raised in Baltimore, Jack attended McDonough Preparatory School and the University of Maryland. Jack founded Daiger Excavating Co., and in his later years, Daiger Equipment Co., in which he brokered and sold heavy equipment. Jack was an avid golfer, enjoyed tennis, growing trees, working outside and spending time with his family and friends in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Jack is survived by his wife of 23 years, Carol Carnochan Daiger; and his five children of his first wife, Jaime Dixon, married to Tom Dixon of Braddock Heights, J. Michele Daiger and son, Hank Thompson, of Frederick, John Paul Daiger II of Frederick, J. Ryan Daiger and wife, Amy, and their children, Morgan, Kennedy and Hayden Daiger, of Frederick, Kendal Daiger and husband, Jon Barkee, and stepgrandson, Max Barkee of Oregon, and Jason Daiger and wife, Colleen, and their children, Riley and Ethan Daiger, of Frederick. Jack's son-in-law, Parker Thompson of Mount Airy and stepgranddaughters, Elisabeth and Drew Thompson, of Damascus, also survive. He is survived by one sister, Roberta Rodgers and husband, Harry, of Baltimore; and cousins, Gordon Daiger, Dorothy Daiger and Barbara Ann Sargeant. He is also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecilia and Percival Daiger; sisters, Jane Christensen and Margaret McGraw; and brother, Joe Daiger of Baltimore. He is also survived by his wife Carol's family, her parents, Emily and John Carnochan of Frederick; brothers, David Carnochan and wife, Barbara, of Boston, John Carnochan and wife, Kathy, of Los Angeles, and Rob Carnochan and wife, Karen, of Austin; and sisters, Susan Carnochan and husband, David Ray, of New York, and Jeannie Hessler and husband, Kevin, of Frederick. The family will receive friends and family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church St. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, followed by a celebration of Jack's life at HOME at the Braddock Inn in Braddock Heights.
