Mr. George Caldwell

Mr. George Caldwell, 75, of Walkersville, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at home. He had been in poor health for many years.

He leaves his wife of 44 years, Nancy Jane; his nephew, Glenn Gardner, of Hyattsville; his niece, Nancy Gardner, of Manhattan, N.Y.; and his sister-in-law, Elsin Ann Perry, of Norris, Tenn. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine.

George, a Navy brat, was born in Shanghai to the late James Edward and Paula Caldwell and was raised in Newport, R.I.

In 1956, he became a proud member of the United States Air Force and was stationed for four years with a Strategic Air Command base in Maine.

He was employed by Bechtel Corp. for many years as a model maker and also worked for Fairchild. After retirement, he enjoyed being a rural carrier at the Walkersville Post Office.

George discovered the world of model aviation at the age of 9 and was a longtime member of the Sky Lancers of Washington Club.

He was known along the East Coast as a top-notch control-line flyer.

George will be greatly missed by his family and friends and his cat, Gizmo.

Stauffer Funeral Home, Walkersville, is handling arrangements.
