Mrs. Vera May Horine

Mrs. Vera May Horine, 89, of Fairview Avenue, Frederick, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Northampton Manor Nursing Center, Frederick. She was the wife of Carroll L. Horine, whom she married on Aug. 30, 1947. She was born March 23, 1920, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Nettie Walkenhorst Maxson.Mrs. Horine taught school in the Frederick County School System for many years. She was a member of People's Baptist Church of Frederick. She was a former member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, former member of the Catoctin Kennel Club and a past Matron of Chapter 79 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing the violin and playing bridge. She was the first violinist in the Hughes High School orchestra. She also was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles. Surviving besides her husband, Carroll, at home, are three children, Donna F. Sherwood and husband, Keith, of Baltimore, Jennie L. Hill and husband, Larry, of Frederick, and Carroll "Jay" Horine of Derwood; five grandchildren, Erica Fay Keefer and husband, Patrick, Danielle Marie Sherwood, Bryan Von Sherwood, Abigail Jones and Julia Jones; and a brother, Vernon Maxson and wife, Ruth, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a son, James Carroll Horine. Mrs. Horine is at the Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 N. Market St., Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the funeral home with her pastor, the Rev. Kent B. Ramler, People's Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
