Mrs. Margaret Jennie Ropp Magnus



Mrs. Margaret Jennie Ropp Magnus, 79, of Middletown, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the College View Center, Frederick. She was the loving wife of the late Raymond Leo Magnus, who died March 3, 1996.

Born in Shookstown on Nov. 5, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Albert Emory and Naomi Ruth Masser Ropp.

She was a graduate of Frederick High School, class of 1946. In her earlier years, she worked at Carmack's Grocery Store on North Market Street, Frederick, at the Dandee Restaurant in Frederick, and for over 25 years she and her husband owned and operated a kinkling business at many local events, fairs and especially The Great Frederick Fair.

She was a loving mother to Gayla Renee Magnus and husband, Kenneth Stockman, of Middletown, Steven Lee Magnus of Middletown and the late Ronald Ray Magnus, who died in 2008. She was a devoted grandmother to Stephanie Marie Magnus of Middletown; and sister of Alberta J. Willard and husband, Kenneth, of Frederick. She will also be remembered by her nephew, Gary E. Willard and wife, Lynn, of Smithsburg, and many more nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Kathryn Vitalis Hoffman, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, and the Rev. Dr. W. Philip Fogarty will officiate. Interment will be private.
