Mrs. Nancy Lee Garst

Mrs. Nancy Lee Garst, 72, near Libertytown, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 9, 1937, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Winfield Scott and Pearl Virginia Curfman Rippeon. She was the wife of Raymond R. Garst Sr., her husband of 53 years.

Mrs. Garst was formerly employed at Cambridge Rubber Co., Taneytown, Fedders Corp., Walkersville, Claire Frock, Thurmont, Aneco Clothing Factory, Taneytown, and BioWhittaker of Walkersville, from where she retired in 2002. She had been a greeter at Wal-Mart, Ceresville, for six years, which she greatly enjoyed. She also enjoyed dancing, country and bluegrass music, word-find puzzles, going out to eat and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Cathy Lee Ann Levine of Walkersville, Karen Sue Denn and husband, Mark, of Woodsboro, Lisa Lou Myers and fianc?, Jim Cotic Sr., of Jackson, Tenn., and Tabitha Annette Hale and husband, Jim, of Raleigh, N.C.; and two sons, Raymond R. Garst Jr., and Patrick David Garst and companion, Denise Huber, all of near Libertytown. Seven grandchildren also survive, Jennifer Divelbliss and husband, Steve, Joshua, Casey and Alex Denn, Nicole Roskowinski and Jessica and Justin Hale. Four great-grandchildren survive, Rachel, Rylea and Brayden Divelbliss and Taylor Rinehart. Five sisters survive, Margaret Myers and husband, Louis, Agnes Fogle, Jean Baker and husband, Ernie, and Betty Gruber and husband, Carroll, all of Woodsboro, and Alice Etzler and husband, Buddy, of Mount Airy; two brothers, Rayue Rippeon and wife, Doris, of New Midway, and William Rippeon and wife, Benita, of Jupiter, Fla.; sister-in-law, Viola Rippeon of Woodsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her many friends at Wal-Mart.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Rippeon, Dorothy Biddinger and Ruby Blentlinger; two brothers, Woodrow and Joseph Rippeon; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Fogle Sr. and Eldred Blentlinger.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Monrovia.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the funeral home.
