Mrs. Mary Cecilia Wampole



Mrs. Mary Cecilia Wampole, 85, of Walkersville, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Harlen C. Wampole, who predeceased her in 2008.

Born Feb. 16, 1924, in Manchester, N.H., she was the only child of Louis A. and Mary B. Hunkins Lee.

Mrs. Wampole began work at the age of 17 for the Navy Department, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. She worked there for nine years before starting her family and becoming a homemaker.

She was an avid bowler for several years for the Golden Oldies league at Terrace Lanes. Mrs. Wampole enjoyed many family camping trips throughout the years. She loved spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick.

Mrs. Wampole is survived by two sons, John L. Wampole of Hagerstown and Harlen J. Wampole and wife, Annamarie, of Middletown; two daughters, Mary L. Leslie and husband, Greg, of Las Vegas, and Claudia A. Moxley and husband, Bryan, of Newville, Pa.; six grandchildren, Johnna, Adam, Alexis, Elizabeth, Catie and Emily; three great-grandchildren, Dashiel, Eva and Julian; and numerous cousins.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at noon Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second St., Frederick. Officiating will be Father Richard J. Murphy.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
