Mr. Charles D. Shipley Sr.



Mr. Charles D. Shipley Sr., 74, of Frederick, passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at College View Nursing Home after a lengthy period of declining health.

Born Sept. 19, 1935, in Takoma Park, he was the son of the late Robert W. and Florence A. Shipley. He liked to dance and he loved country music. Charlie listened attentively to WFRE and he was an avid CB radio enthusiast (his handle was "Charlie Brown"). He was a folder operator in the printing trade, working at Federal Lithograph in Washington and Belmar Printing in Shady Grove. He was most recently employed by Wal-Mart on Guilford Drive in Frederick as a door greeter.

The last of nine brothers and sisters, Charlie is survived by four children, Charles Shipley Jr. and wife, Trina, of Glen Burnie, Lynn Cook of Glen Burnie, Ronald Shipley and wife, Debbie, of Chambersburg, Pa., and Tammie Baugher and husband, Glenn, of Frederick; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two cousins, Betty Lizer and Ron Baker; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. 15 N., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. A foot procession will follow the service to the Veterans Garden of Honor II for committal. Pastor Jason Lang will officiate.

Floral tributes are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick, MD 21701 or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.

Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody, P.A., Frederick.
