Mr. Thomas Parker Lancaster

Mr. Thomas Parker Lancaster, 80, of Frederick, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after an extended illness, surrounded by his family.Born Aug. 21, 1929, in Washington, he was the son of the late Louis and Katherine L. Parker Lancaster. He was the husband of Bernadette Guay Lancaster, his wife of 54 years. Mr. Lancaster grew up in Bethesda, was a graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and attended Montgomery Junior College. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Libertytown, where he served as an usher. He was employed with the Department of National Defense for 36 years, including the Naval Ordnance Laboratory and the National Security Agency. He volunteered with the soup kitchen of the Frederick Community Center and was devoted to his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Mark Lancaster and wife, Judy, Kevin Lancaster, John Lancaster and wife, Sandy, Joseph Lancaster and wife, Kim, and Michael Lancaster and wife, Cassy; and four daughters, Paula Lancaster, Maria Grosskopf and husband, Steve, Megan Gorman and husband, Patrick, and Katrin Stambach and husband, Paul. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, Catherine and husband, Justin, Peter and wife, Ashley, Elizabeth and husband, Mark, Emily, Erin, Whitney, Ryan, Brien, Daniel, Morgan, Thomas, Mark, John Andre, Joseph, Rebekah, Ashley, Timothy, Kaitlin, Paul Ryan and Nathan; and five great-grandchildren, Madison, Ashlyn, Mason, Makaylie and Avery. He was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Lancaster. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Fr. Jason Worley and Deacon John Martin as celebrants. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown. A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
