Several famous Hollywood socialites?

Not quite.

It was dogs getting the celebrity treatment during the 'Dog Days of Summer' First Saturday Gallery Walk in downtown Frederick .

Elisa Harpscer of Hagerstown brought her 5-year-old Chihuahua, Brody, to get his picture taken at the Doggywood Photo Booth at the Carroll Creek Amphitheater. Brody, wearing a Harley-Davidson jacket and hat, sat on a surfboard with an ocean wave backdrop as the photographer snapped the picture.

Harpscer is an animal lover and a dog groomer at Sittin' Pretty in Funkstown. She got Brody from an animal shelter about five years ago.

After getting their pictures taken, some owners took their dogs to the Doggy Day Spa put on by the Golden Orchard Salon & Spa.

While their owners received hand massages, dogs could take a dip in a dog bone-shaped pool filled with cool water, owner said Yvette Shirey said. Her daughter, Emma Shirey, 8, offered to give the dogs spiked hair with a pet silk gel.

Although temperatures reached the high 90s, many business owners left bowls of water outside their front doors for the dogs. As of 6 p.m., no dogs had needed medical treatment, said Melissa Sasu, a registered veterinary technician from Kingsbrook Animal Hospital. Sasu was at the event to provide first aid and medical care to dogs if needed.

Johnna Kennedy of Frederick brought her 4-year-old toy fox terrier, Sarah, to the event. Sarah was decked out in a white shawl and bloomers with a red bonnet.

"I wanted to show off my sweet little dog," Kennedy said. "We've walked all over the place. She is with me all the time."
