Fire damages apartment buildingA fire caused roughly $10,000 in damage to an apartment building in the 1400 block of Key Parkway about 2:41 a.m. Friday, according to the Office of the Frederick County Fire Marshal.
About 30 firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes, according to fire officials.
The second-floor fire started from an improperly discarded cigarette, according to fire officials. A resident of the apartment building was smoking in the hallway of the apartment building and discarded the cigarette, which fell into a hole in a window sill.
Residents poured several pans of water into the hole to extinguish the cigarette, according to fire officials. Thinking the cigarette had been safely extinguished, the residents left. A resident returning home about 2:40 a.m., noticed the fire and called 911.
No injuries were reported and no residents were displaced by the fire, according to fire officials.

Man arrested on drug charges
Walkersville -- A Walkersville man was arrested Thursday on drug charges, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.
Police pulled over Michael J. Mende, 26, about 11 p.m. on Inspiration Avenue because the car he was riding in had a brake light out, police said. A police dog detected marijuana.
During a search, Mende was found with drug paraphernalia that contained suspected marijuana residue, police said.
Mende was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center; he was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Man charged with possession of crack
Walkersville -- A Frederick man was arrested Friday morning on drug charges, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office said.
Warren Nixon Jr., 23, was arrested after the car he was riding in was pulled over about 12:15 a.m. on Adventure Avenue in Walkersville , police said. The vehicle was stopped because its tag light was out.
A police dog detected drugs in the car. Nixon had 5.1 grams of suspected marijuana and 11.9 grams of suspected crack cocaine.
Nixon was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center; he was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Frederick man arrested for selling drugs
A Frederick man was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Thursday for selling pills to an undercover officer, the Frederick Police Department said.
Police sent an undercover officer to try to purchase drugs from a man later identified as Robert Paul Johnson, 22, of the 200 block of Madison Street, police said. Police had received several complaints that a man had been trying to sell Vicodin in the area of the 300 block of North Market Street.
Johnson was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center; he was charged with drug distribution, drug possession with intent to distribute and drug possession.

Man arrested for drug possession
Thurmont -- A Frederick man was arrested Thursday after police found marijuana in his car, according to the Thurmont Police Department.
Joseph M. Rogers, 29, was pulled over for driving erratically at the intersection of West Main Street and Shipley Avenue, police said. He was found to be driving with a suspended license.
During a search, police found marijuana and cash in the car.
Rogers was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center; he was charged with driving on a suspended license, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
