Diane Ivins walks to a van en route to the Fort Detrick chapel shortly after 11 a.m. today for a private ceremony for her husband, Bruce E. Ivins, the chief suspect in the 2001 Anthrax mailings. While the FBI was disclosing its case to the families of victims of the Anthrax mailings in Washington, family, friends and colleagues gathered to mourn the loss of Ivins.
A private memorial for government biodefense scientist Bruce E. Ivins is being held this morning at Fort Detrick, according to Chuck Gordon, an Army spokesman.

Ivins' family requested privacy, so the memorial is not open to the public, Gordon said.

"We are respecting that," Gordon said.

The service is being held in a chapel on base.
