Leg crushed by milling machineAn Odenton man was injured when his right leg was run over by a milling machine on the eastbound U.S. 340 ramp to eastbound I-70, according to the Maryland State Police.
John David Evans, 40, was in serious condition Tuesday afternoon at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma in Baltimore, hospital spokeswoman Cindy Rivers said.
Evans was working as a job foreman for Mark Lang Inc., a sub-contractor for the F.O. Day Co., police said. Workers were getting ready to remove several layers of asphalt from the roadway about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Evans walked in front of a road milling machine to help line up the machine properly, but tripped and fell, police said. The machine driver, Monte Bowens, 36, of Baltimore, did not see him and drove over Evans' right leg below the knee.
A Maryland State Police helicopter flew Evans to the trauma center to treat his injures, police said.
Besides Troopers, officials from the Maryland Department of Occupational Safety and Health investigated the accident, police said. Troopers do not think Bowens will be charged.
The ramp was closed for less than three hours during the investigation.
