DAMASCUS — A man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision when the Jeep he was driving struck a Ride On bus on Woodfield Road in Damascus.

Four passengers were riding the bus when it crashed, said Stanley "Buddy" Sutton, chief of the Laytonsville District Volunteer Fire Department.

The bus driver and a woman passenger were treated at hospitals; their injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

The 61-year-old driver of the Jeep was taken by ambulance to Suburban Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The passenger was taken to Suburban Hospital and treated for minor injuries including scratches on her knee, Sutton said. The bus driver was taken to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital for injuries to his neck and shoulders from the seat belt, he said.

The crash occurred around 12:50 p.m. near the intersection of Pleasant View Lane, police said.

The bus was traveling north on Woodfield Road, police said. As the bus approached Pleasant View Lane, a 1995 Jeep heading south on Woodfield crossed the double yellow lines, said Officer Melanie Brenner. The Jeep crashed into the bus head-on, she said. Police don't know why the Jeep crossed the yellow lines, she said.

No charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation, police said.

Police declined to identify any of the victims.
