The Frederick County State's Attorney's Office introduced members of the latest grand jury to their duties Friday by calling cases involving allegations of assault, burglary, robbery and drug dealing.

Bronson W. McLain, 31, of Frederick , was among those indicted, State's Attorney Charlie Smith said.

McLain faces charges including manufacturing marijuana, possession and possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances and being a felon in possession of a firearm, Smith said.

McLain was arrested by sheriff's deputies in mid-August after they found at least 40 marijuana plants, growing equipment and drugs in his residence on Crestview Drive, authorities said.

Deputies had accompanied a Department of Social Services agent to check on three children at the residence during a home visit.

Smelling marijuana, they obtained a search warrant and seized marijuana plants, two guns, Oxycontin pills and Valium, Smith said.

In another matter, the grand jury indicted Michael W. Fedder, 28, of New Windsor, on charges of possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and fleeing and eluding, Smith said.

In August, Fedder ran through six lanes of traffic and the median on I-70 near the Md. 75 exit before Maryland State Police apprehended him, authorities said at the time.

Stopped for speeding, Fedder fled. While pursuing him, police found strewn bags of marijuana, a jar of marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and a scale, Smith said.

In some of the other cases considered Friday, Smith said the grand jury returned indictments against:

n Rafael Lopez Cardoza, 19, of Frederick , who is suspected of shooting windows at Country Hill Apartments and burglarizing property during a power failure July 15.

Cardoza faces charges of second- and fourth-degree burglary, malicious destruction of property and theft.

n Blair A. Hoy, 47, of Gwynn Oak, charged with possession with the intent to distribute crack Aug. 5 at Frederick Towne Mall.

n Alessandra Caitlyn Potter, 21, of Frederick , charged with first- and second-degree assault in the slashing of a person's face with a knife Aug. 29.

n Michael Landon Pratt, 17, of Frederick , charged as an adult with robbery, assault and theft in a May 2 holdup of a victim for $30.

The indictments forward the cases toward trials in Frederick County Circuit Court.
