Attackers sought in beating

Several assailants are being sought after a Virginia man was beaten with a baseball bat in the 1400 block of Key Parkway, according to the Frederick Police Department.

The man had multiple facial fractures and was flown to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown for treatment, police said.

The attack happened about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, police said.

"It was a very serious assault," said Sgt. Jason Keckler.

The man has since been released from the hospital, police said.

Stolen vehicle leads to arrest

A Frederick man is being held without bail after a deputy found illegal drugs and more than 100 prescription pills in a stolen vehicle he was driving, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

While on patrol, a deputy ran a check on a vehicle that was driving down Adamstown Road near New Design Road, the sheriff's office said. After learning the vehicle was reported stolen, the deputy talked to the driver, Robert D. Randolph, 39, after he stopped at a home on New Design Road.

The deputy saw suspected crack cocaine and marijuana on the driver's seat in the vehicle, the sheriff's office said. A digital scale and pill bottles with more than 100 unidentifiable prescription drugs were found in the vehicle during a search.

Randolph has been charged with possession of crack cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs, theft over $500 and possession with intent to distribute.

Undercover drug deal leads to charges

A Frederick man was arrested after he sold suspected marijuana to an undercover officer, according to the Frederick Police Department.

Officers with the Drug Enforcement Unit arranged to buy marijuana from Nicholas James Perry, 20, about 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the first block of East South Street, police said. After selling the drug to an officer, Perry was arrested.

Additional suspected marijuana was found in his backpack along with cash, police said.

Perry was charged with two counts each of possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and two counts of possession with intent to distribute, authorities said. He was released from the Frederick County Adult Detention Center after posting $20,000 bail.

DUI enforcement set

While children will be patrolling for candy, Maryland State Police will be on the lookout for drunken drivers this weekend.

In cooperation with the State Highway Safety Office, Troopers will target locations known for crashes involving deaths and impaired drivers, police said.

Anyone who sees an impaired driver on the road may call state police at 301-600-4151 or dial #77 on cell phones. Be prepared to provide a specific location and a description of the vehicle, including the tag number.
