Downtown Frederick 's art scene is growing with its latest addition, Gallery 322.

Located at 322 N. Market St., the gallery features the works of five artists and will expand to others in the future, according to Walter Bartman, one of the artists.

All the artists have formed a partnership to pay rent on the space.

Bartman said the gallery was improved not only to display works properly, but also to anticipate art classes during the week. The gallery will be open on weekends.

Bartman, a resident of Braddock Heights, is director and founder of the Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery in Glen Echo Park and has taught art in the Bethesda area for more than 30 years.

Bartman has won numerous honors including Art Educator of the Year in Maryland and Distinguished Teacher in the Arts. A graduate of the University of Maryland, he received a Fulbright Grant to study art in Belgium and the Netherlands and earned a master of fine arts in painting and art history from the American University.

Russell Schofield works primarily in oil painting and has exhibited at the Yellow Barn Gallery and S. Dillon Ripley Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution.

Ann Terbush Schaefer, a former administrator with the U.S. Department of Commerce, paints in oil, watercolor and acrylic. She holds a degree in fine arts from George Washington University and public administration from American University. She has exhibited at the Yellow Barn and other galleries in Maryland and Virginia.

Bonny Lundy is an artist and art teacher who has been featured on Maryland Public Television. She holds a degree in painting and has taught for 25 years for the Smithsonian Associates, Delaplaine Arts Education Center, Glen Echo Park, Yellow Barn Studio School and Frederick Community College.

She also has led workshops in Italy, France and Honduras. Besides painting, Lundy also works with clay, glass, batik, beads and fabric.

Jacquelyn Jouvenal comes from a family of artists and began painting as a young child. She displays her work at the Discovery Galleries in Bethesda and teaches at the Yellow Barn Studio. She holds a summa cum laude degree in illustration from Syracuse University and spent a year in Florence, Italy, studying oil painting and art history.
