This tractor-trailer rolled over about 11 a.m. Wednesday on southbound I-270 just north of Md. 85 which caused a traffic back up on southbound U.S. 15 and the exit to I-270 off of I-70. The driver, Anthony Shackleford of Falling Waters, W.Va., was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital; his injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.
Tractor-trailer overturns on I-270

A tractor-trailer overturned late Wednesday morning on southbound I-270 near Md. 85, shutting down two traffic lanes, according to Maryland State Police.

The driver, Anthony Shackleford of Falling Waters, W.Va., was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital; his injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Shackleford was driving south when the load of the truck shifted and caused the vehicle to overturn, police said. The rig landed over the right guardrail. The concrete cylinders onboard broke free and landed in a culvert.

The two lanes were closed for several hours while the crash scene was cleaned up, police said.

Speeding leads to traffic, drug charges

Speeding led to a Pennsylvania man's arrest on a marijuana possession charge during a traffic stop on U.S. 15 near Rosemont Avenue, according to Maryland State Police.

After stopping the vehicle shortly after midnight Tuesday, the trooper determined through a check that the driver, Bobby James Sanders Jr., 39, of Harrisburg, Pa., was driving on a suspended license.

The trooper smelled burned marijuana, and Sanders admitted smoking pot earlier in the day, police said. The trooper found 17 grams of marijuana during a search of the vehicle.

Sanders was charged with speeding, driving on a suspended out-of-state license and possession of marijuana, authorities said. He was released from the Frederick County Adult Detention Center after posting $6,500 bail. A Jan. 14 court date has been set.

Man arrested on drug charges

The Frederick City Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit arrested a man on drug charges after a traffic stop Tuesday at Waverley Drive and Key Parkway.

Officers were on patrol when they saw a vehicle commit a traffic violation at the intersection, police said. Officers pulled the vehicle over and asked the driver for his driver's license.

As the driver pulled his wallet from his pocket, he also pulled out a bag with crack cocaine, police said. The officer grabbed the cocaine, and the driver was arrested.

The driver was identified as William Wysling, 42, of Union Bridge, police said.

Officers searched the vehicle and found paraphernalia used to smoke crack in the vehicle, police said.

Police charged Wysling with possession of crack cocaine and possession of paraphernalia.

Wysling was taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for an appearance before a District Court commissioner, police said.

Four charged with drug possession

Four people were arrested on drug charges after an apartment was searched Friday, according to the Frederick Police Department.

At about 6:05 a.m. Friday, the Drug Enforcement Unit served a search and seizure warrant at an apartment in the 5400 block of Upper Mill Terrace South. During a search of the residence, officers found suspected cocaine, marijuana, Ecstasy, oxycodone and steroids, police said.

U.S. currency and drug paraphernalia were also found in the home, police said.

As a result of the search, three Frederick men and a Mount Airy woman were arrested. Franklin Roosevelt Sheppard, 21, was charged with possession with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine, marijuana, Oxycotin, Ecstasy and steroids, police said.

Daniel Robert Mayers, 21, was charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana, Ecstasy and paraphernalia, police said.

Kevin Raymond Carlson, 21, was charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana and paraphernalia, police said.

Valerie Lauren Dorsey, 20, of Mount Airy , was charged with possession of marijuana, police said.

They were taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center to appear before a District Court commissioner.

The procession to the Frederick Christian Fellowship Church was led by Frederick County Sheriff's deputies. Dressed in full military regalia, Marines carried Smith's casket into the church followed by family members as more Marines stood at attention.
