Speeding leads to traffic, drug charges

Speeding led to a Pennsylvania man's arrest on a marijuana possession charge during a traffic stop on U.S. 15 near Rosemont Avenue, according to Maryland State Police.

After stopping the vehicle shortly after midnight Tuesday, the trooper determined through a check that the driver, Bobby James Sanders Jr., 39, of Harrisburg, Pa., was driving on a suspended license.

The trooper smelled burned marijuana, and Sanders admitted smoking pot earlier in the day, police said. The trooper found 17 grams of marijuana during a search of the vehicle.

Sanders was charged with speeding, driving on a suspended out-of-state license and possession of marijuana, authorities said. He was released from the Frederick County Adult Detention Center after posting $6,500 bail. A Jan. 14 court date has been set.
