Two arrested in thefts

Stealing beauty products from Kmart led to the arrests of two people, according to the Frederick Police Department.

Officers were called to the West Patrick Street store about 8 p.m. Wednesday, police said. While outside, officers spoke with loss prevention personnel in the store who were watching Timothy R. Stevens, 29, of Centreville, and Ashley R. Mister, 25, of Easton.

The two were putting beauty products such as Oil of Olay and razors into a coffee maker box, police said. As the two left the store, police arrested each of them on a charge of theft less than $1,000.

Mister was released after posting $6,500 bail, and Stevens was released on $7,500 bail, authorities said. Both have court dates set for Jan. 5.

The Frederick County Sheriff's Office's Proactive Aggressive Community Enforcement unit arrested nine people during patrols Wednesday evening on the eastern portion of I-70.

Deputies seized two vehicles along with 32.5 grams of suspected heroin, 10.2 grams of suspected crack cocaine, one bottle of suspected liquid PCP and 90 grams of suspected marijuana, the sheriff's office said.

-- A deputy initiated a traffic stop about 9:30 p.m. on a vehicle for speeding on westbound I-70 near Md. 144, the sheriff's office said. A check through Frederick County Emergency Communications revealed the driver, Christopher M. Folmar, 37, of Hedgesville, W.Va., was driving on a revoked license.

Folmar and Richard L. Wingfield, 34, of Winchester, Va., were charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to distribute.

-- Suspected crack cocaine, marijuana and PCP were found during another traffic stop on westbound I-70 near Mussetter Road, the sheriff's office said.

Two deputies stopped the vehicle for speeding, the sheriff's office said. A police dog scanned the vehicle and alerted the deputies to drugs.

Ashley Lamb, 19, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Duane D. Mason, 33, of Capitol Heights, and Ronald P. Greenfield, 31, of Seat Pleasant, were arrested, the sheriff's office said. Lamb was charged with driving on a suspended out-of-state license. Both Mason and Greenfield were charged with possession of cocaine and PCP and possession with intent to distribute both. Mason was also charged with making a false statement to a police officer.

-- A deputy stopped a vehicle about 11:30 p.m. on westbound I-70 at Md. 75 for not having a lit registration light, the sheriff's office said.

While talking to the driver, Jeffrey D. Berkhead, 21, of Fanrock, W.Va., the deputy smelled suspected marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, the sheriff's office said. A check revealed Berkhead was driving on a suspended out-of-state driver's license. During a search of the vehicle, suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found.

Frederick man arrested in burglary

Frederick police arrested and charged a Frederick man Thursday in connection with a burglary in the North Crossing subdivision in which electronic equipment was stolen.

At about 9 a.m., officers with the Frederick Police Department watched a man leave a residence with what appeared to be electronic goods and carry them back to his car, police said.

Police stopped the man, identified as Derek E. Lindsey, 37, as he attempted to drive away. Police initially arrested him on motor vehicle charges.

After searching the man’s car, they also charged him with possession of stolen property, which consisted of laptops and jewelry, police said.

Officers are investigating a series of about six daytime burglaries over the past 10 days in the Amber Meadows, North Crossing and Clover Ridge subdivisions, police said. Police called in detectives to interview Lindsey regarding the other burglaries, but have not released details of that investigation.
