Visit FMH's operating roomFrederick Memorial Healthcare System will host its third annual operating room open house from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. today at Frederick Memorial Hospital, 400 W. Seventh St., Frederick .
Visitors can see two operating rooms, one set up for a laparoscopic procedure and the other for a joint replacement.
A video of a gallbladder removal shot inside the patient's body will be shown while the surgeon describes what he's doing. Visitors may then try out the laparoscopic surgical instruments in a simulated abdominal cavity.
In the second operating room, visitors may handle and examine models of the joints and the actual tools that doctors, nurses and technicians use in these common procedures.
FMH's pre- and post-operative areas will also be open. Anesthesiologists will also be on hand to demonstrate how patients are intubated to assist their breathing.
Brunswick may change water use fee
The Brunswick City Council is expected to vote Tuesday on a new one-time water fee of $79.80 for some new dwellings.
The fee would apply to a new dwelling unit created by an addition or renovation to a dwelling. A dwelling unit is defined in the zoning ordinance as "a room or group of rooms forming a single residential unit with facilities for living, sleeping and cooking purposes, which are exclusively used for the family living therein."

The Mid-Valley Homemakers will host the Homemakers Holiday activity from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 19 at AMVETS Post 9, Green Street, Middletown . Tickets are $3.
Mid-Valley and other county Homemakers Clubs will demonstrate more than a dozen different holiday crafts.
Directions for crafts will be available, as well as a "Make and Take" table, refreshments and door prizes. Entertainment will be by the String Poets Quartet.
