From Staff Reports

Purse theft investigated

Frederick County sheriff's deputies are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who they believe stole a woman's purse at Wal-Mart on Guilford Drive.

The purse, which contained cash, credit cards and personal identification, was taken Nov. 10 from the woman's shopping cart, the sheriff's office said.

The man is described as black, about 6 feet tall and weighing 240 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a red hooded sweatshirt. Surveillance video showed him leaving the store in a gray Nissan truck with possible handicapped tags.

Anyone with information about this crime should call Deputy First Class Gary Dembo at 301-600-3923.

Three injured in crash

Three Brunswick residents were injured in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 40 near Cool Hollow Road, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

A 2004 Kia was going east on a wet U.S. 40 about 10 p.m. Thursday when it went down an embankment into Beaver Creek, the sheriff's office said.

The driver, Alisha Nicole Baker, 18, and two passengers, Jessy Adam Tuttle, 20, and Crystal Danielle Fox, 19, were taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment, the sheriff's office said. Baker was charged with speed too great to avoid a collision.

Vehicle thefts investigated

The Frederick Police Department is investigating a string of thefts from vehicles in three areas of the city.

Vehicles, most of them unlocked, in the Carroll Park Manor and Worman's Mill subdivisions and the Willowdale Drive area have had items taken from them, said Lt. Thomas Ledwell. The items include GPS devices, cameras, cell phones, satellite radios, cameras, coins, DVD players, iPods, and wallets holding cash and credit cards.

There have been 13 thefts from these areas, and the thefts happened during the overnight hours, he said. Bicycle, foot and vehicle patrols are being used to help combat the thefts.

Ledwell reminds residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuable items or hide them from sight. Anyone who sees suspicious activity should call police at 301-600-2100.
