  • Mount Airy -- One person was killed and four others were injured Monday evening in a two-car crash near the 4000 block of Bill Moxley Road, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office said.

At about 7:20 p.m., Frederick County Emergency Communications took a call about a crash involving two sedans, said Lt. Ron Hibbard of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Officers and personnel found one person dead and four injured, Hibbard said.

One of the cars, a Chevrolet Cavalier, overturned several times and slid down a hill off the western side of the road, Hibbard said.

Jimmy Hawkins, 20, of Damascus, was killed in the crash, Cpl. Jennifer Bailey, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, said. Two passengers in the Cavalier were injured, a 17-year-old from Monrovia and Ashley Caldwell, 19, of Monrovia .

The windshield had been knocked out of the other car, a Chevrolet Corsica, which was visible from the road. It appeared to be damaged on the driver's side.

James Valentine Jr., 51, and Deborah Valentine, 47, of Mount Airy were the occupants of the Corsica.

All four people injured in the crash were taken to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

Traffic near the scene of the crash was closed as investigators tried to determine the cause of the crash as well as the identities of those involved, Hibbard said.
